Game Concept

ShrewChew captures the high-stakes urgency seen in specific North American shrew breeds, which are compelled to eat frequently to maintain their astonishingly high metabolism and heart rates. This biological drive serves as the cornerstone for our game's mechanics, thrusting players into a competitive scramble for food. As they navigate through a dynamic environment, players also grapple with deliberately whimsical physics and controls, adding an extra layer of challenge and unpredictability to the experience.

Contributions:

  • Spearheaded the project, directing the team in both concept development and technical execution.

  • Dual-Controller Input System:

    • Engineered a robust dual-controller input system using Unity's Input Manager.

    • Utilized custom scripting to allow for individualized mapping for each controller, ensuring a seamless multiplayer experience.

    • Conducted rigorous debugging sessions to minimize input lag and eliminate input conflicts, thereby allowing for high-frequency, simultaneous inputs.

  • Map Design for Gameplay:

    • Contributed to creating a map layout strategically designed to escalate the competitive nature of the game.

    • Incorporated Unity's 3D physics engine and collision detection to introduce elements of unpredictability and challenge.
